How to use Rotate & Flip Images

Rotate images and flip photos horizontally or vertically. Correct orientation, mirror a picture and download a copy without uploading the image.

  1. Choose an image or Try a sample.
  2. Rotate left/right, flip, or enter a custom angle. Expand the canvas to retain corners, or keep the canvas size and crop rotated edges.
  3. Check the result, undo if needed and Prepare download. Expanded corners remain transparent in PNG/WebP.

What to expect

Rotation is in 90-degree steps. A quarter-turn swaps width and height without cutting off the edges. Flipping keeps the dimensions. Small-angle straightening is not included in this version.

Are images uploaded?

No. These tools use local browser processing and have no image-upload endpoint. The site can still use normal hosting logs and its existing Analytics setup.

Which images are supported?

Static JPG, PNG and WebP, up to 20 MB, 8 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per side. Animated images, SVG, HEIC, RAW, PDF and video are not supported.

Can I undo my edits?

Editing tools keep a limited recent history during the session. Use Undo and Redo. Closing or refreshing the page discards unsaved work.

What happens when I download?

Image editors export a new flattened file without overwriting your original. Colour tools let you copy colour values; palette extraction also provides a text download.

HOW IT WORKS

How rotation and flipping work

See how rotation and flipping reposition pixels, and how straightening and export affect the image edges.

Quarter-turns

The output canvas swaps width and height for a 90-degree turn. The drawing transform rotates around its centre.

Reflection

A horizontal flip reverses columns; a vertical flip reverses rows. Both flips together equal a 180-degree rotation.

Re-encoding

The pixel orientation is baked into a new file. Exporting JPG uses a new lossy encoding pass; it is not lossless JPEG coefficient rotation.

Custom angles

Custom rotations use browser canvas resampling. Expand calculates a bounding canvas for the rotated image; Keep size clips rotated edges. Transparent corners can be filled in Photo Editor or exported as PNG/WebP.
