Profiles help preserve colours and may contain descriptive fields. Turn this off to remove them; colours may change. Orientation is retained when needed to keep photos the right way up.

Ready when you are.

Image data is copied without recompression. Downloads use neutral filenames. Animated images and multi-picture JPEG files are unsupported. Removing metadata does not remove visible or embedded pixel watermarks, or guarantee that AI-generated images cannot be identified.

GET THE RESULT YOU NEED

Remove image metadata before sharing

A photo can carry more than its visible pixels: camera details, location tags, editing history, comments or generation parameters. Inspect supported metadata blocks and download a cleaned copy without uploading the original.

  1. Choose JPG, PNG or WebP images and review the inspection report.
  2. Choose whether to keep colour profiles, then select Clean images.
  3. Review what was removed or retained and download individual images or a ZIP.

What to expect

The cleaner copies encoded image data without recompressing it. It removes supported metadata containers and unknown ancillary application blocks. Essential image structure and any required orientation are retained. Colour profiles are kept by default. This is a metadata cleaner, not a guarantee of anonymity.

Will cleaning reduce image quality?

The encoded image data is copied, not recompressed. Removing colour profiles can change how colours appear, so keeping them is recommended.

Does it remove GPS and AI prompts?

It removes EXIF containers containing GPS and supported text or XMP containers that may contain prompts. It cannot remove information baked into image pixels, visible watermarks or every possible fingerprint.

Can it make an AI image undetectable?

No. Removing metadata is separate from changing pixels or embedded watermarks. Detection and provenance systems may still identify the image.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Inspection and cleaning run locally in a browser worker. Downloads use neutral filenames; metadata displayed in the report is not stored by the tool.

Can I remove metadata from PDF, Word, video or audio files?

This tool handles static JPG, PNG and WebP images only. PDFs, Office documents, videos and audio need format-specific inspection and removal tools. Our metadata guide explains the differences.

HOW IT WORKS

How metadata removal works

See how hidden records are removed while the compressed picture data stays intact—and what can remain.

Reading the container, not re-encoding the picture

An image file can contain both compressed image data and descriptive records. This tool parses JPEG marker segments, PNG chunks or WebP RIFF chunks. It removes supported metadata records and rebuilds the container while retaining the compressed image payload. Unlike canvas conversion, it does not decode and recompress the picture.

What is removed and what can remain

Supported EXIF/GPS records, comments, text and other removable application chunks are stripped. A minimal orientation record is retained when needed to display the image correctly. Colour-profile information is retained by default, with an option to remove it; essential format information stays. The report names removed and retained blocks.

Rescanning and privacy limits

The output is rescanned using the same parser to show recognised remaining metadata. That is a useful check, not an independent forensic certification. Cleaning cannot remove visible faces, addresses or watermarks, information hidden inside image pixels, filenames or copies stored elsewhere. This tool handles supported static JPG, PNG and WebP images, not PDFs or Word documents.
