GET THE RESULT YOU NEED

Image to Text online

Copy text from an image with free browser OCR. Extract English or Afrikaans text from JPG, PNG and WebP, edit the result and download TXT. No image uploads.

  1. Choose a clear image containing printed text.
  2. Select English, Afrikaans or both, and extract text.
  3. Proofread, edit and copy the text or download a TXT file.

What to expect

OCR recognises characters rather than reproducing a document layout. Clear printed text works best. Handwriting, small letters, tables and angled photos can produce mistakes.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Tesseract runs locally. Engine and language files are downloaded from this website when needed; the image and recognised text are not sent to a recognition server.

Which languages are included?

English and Afrikaans, individually or together. Choose the language matching your text for better results.

Can it read handwriting or tables?

Results vary and handwriting may be poor. Output is plain text; complex columns, tables and formatting may not survive.

Does it support PDF?

No. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP image. This tool does not upload or process PDF documents.

HOW IT WORKS

How image to text works

OCR recognises characters rather than reproducing a document layout. Clear printed text works best. Handwriting, small letters, tables and angled photos can produce mistakes.

Decode the photo

A static image is decoded locally into a canvas. File and pixel limits bound memory use. The source image stays unchanged.

Load language data

Tesseract.js loads the bundled worker, WebAssembly engine and selected English or Afrikaans language data from this website. The browser may cache these assets.

Recognise characters

The recognition engine analyses text regions and estimates characters using its trained language data. Layout selection affects segmentation and reading order; it does not guarantee accuracy.

Review and export text

The recognised result is placed in an editable text field. Copy and TXT downloads use your edited text. Formatting, tables and handwriting can be inaccurate, so proofreading is part of the workflow.
